Can flamenco be merged with the melodic pop of the legendary Swedish ABBA? Yes, and this daring proposal can be seen this Saturday at Villa de Nerja Cultural Center. Starting at 8:00 p.m.
the flamenco troupe of Antonio Guerra takes the stage together with the 66-year-old Swedish saxophonist Johan Stengard, a true legend of this instrument, who performed with the Nordic band, as well as with other artists such as Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Lena Horne or Sammy Davis Jr.The show, entitled “FLABBAMENCO”, will include four songs by the Swedish group, to which Guerra has added rhythm and flamenco dance through “bulerías”: “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”, “Mamma Mia!’”, “Chiquitita” and “Super trouper”.
The 54-year-old Guerra, who has spent more than half his life dedicated to flamenco dancing, explained: ”It was a chance meeting, more than two years ago, he came to see one of our shows and we met there, we have been working since then and I think we have created a great product, which I hope the public will like”.

With his company, which also manages a school, he has toured stages throughout the country, although he had never reached a fusion like the one they have prepared with the Swedish saxophonist, who has bought a house in Nerja just a year ago.
”He is delighted, although he does not speak any Spanish, but flamenco dance and music are a universal language,” considered the flamenco artist.
In his career, he defines himself as ”more purist”, although ”he had played with different styles, but in a very lightly way”, he has remarked.
In his opinion, the performance is ”very complete, and I hope everyone likes it.” ”We go humbly, because he is a superstar, it is being very gratifying,” Guerra confessed.
The flamenco troupe is made up of Greta Zorrilla, Pili Franco, Rocío Martín, Mónica Guerra, Cristian Martín, Jesús Carmona and Fernando Díaz. Carlos Haro will be on guitar, Carlos Leal on percussion and vocals, including songs by ABBA, Vanessa Fernández.
